Updated class rules will go into effect March 1, 2026.
Changes:
- General Class Rule 8.1 (personal flotation devices/life jackets) is updated and clarified.
As part of the approval process at World Sailing and on their recommendation, the text has been slightly modified compared to the version used for the comment period etc. Aim and objective remain unchanged. - General Class Rule 22 (Signalling a protest) is deleted. It was implemented more than 20 years ago. However, we are in accordance with RRS 86.1(c), which no longer allows us to change RRS 60.2 (the requirement for a protest flag) in the class rules. It doesn’t change anything about signalling a protest for Hobies with hulls no longer than 6 metres. For the Hobie 20, it means a protest flag will be required unless otherwise specified in the Notice of Race or the Sailing Instructions.
- Due to the removal of General Class Rule 22, subsequent rules have been renumbered. Specifically, Membership and Propulsion rules are now designated as Rules 25 and 26, respectively. Please ensure all references are updated accordingly.
- Frédérique Pfeiffer and Jane B. Sherrod have been appointed as IHCA Measurers under Class Rules Appendix C and are now listed in the IHCA Contact Appendix.
